First of all happy Halloween to y’all!

New type of articles!

We will begin on a new type of article, which is the communities opinions!

Basically, we have begun to make polls surrounding y’alls opinions on topics in our public discord, so if you want your opinion to be used in this article, go join our public discord!

With all that said, let’s get right into the article!!

Does Lore SMPs lack originality?

We asked our discord, if Lore SMPs need more originality, and they came with a 92% YES.

First of all, I want to really quickly state, that there are more SMPs out there than you think, that even we haven’t interacted with much, especially on TikTok and other places.

So does Lore SMPs need more originality? Maybe?….

Does angst remove originality from SMPs?

When we put this poll out, I thought a few would agree with like, there being too many QSMP-inspired SMPs, or something like that, but holy air ball, I was not ready for what ended up being said.

I honestly find myself agreeing here. As a person who have seen, read, watched, and made a lot of angst in my life. And it does tend to be “just another Tuesday”.

Like, I remember when we in this community, had original story plots, people just hanging out together in lore, without all the angst that has appears lately.

Angst will almost always come naturally in lore. Conflicts are bound to happen, so why force down angst everywhere you go?
I thought Lore was about being creative and putting in new and creative plot lines in stories.

I am not telling you all to stop doing angst, I and the person who originally had this thought, wants you to maybe turn down the angst a bit?

It breaks originality when it’s just “angst, angst, angst… and maybe some more angst”.

I was just like this once, but I have since then realized that we need less angst, and more happy/empowering/silly lore, because this amazing community needs it!

A more serious talk about the angst problem

Some heavy topics will be picked up during this article, so viewer discretion advised.

We are not done talking about angst for the long run, and we need to talk a little more seriously, because there is a thing that the person with the original thought said, that I have heard about too.

I've also unfortunately witnessed people be affected by too much angst. Sometimes it can have the same effect as trauma dumping. I've seen people leave servers or remove characters cause they couldn't handle the amount of angst that the server was putting on their characters. I've also heard of people having nightmares based on lore.

Person with original thought

Sometimes, we have to set our foot down, and say, enough is enough, which is why this article even exists.
Lore shouldn’t get to the point, where people get nightmares, leaves servers, removes characters, and definitely not to the point of having the same effect as trauma dumping.

I know this happens in very few instances of angst, I completely do, but few instances is far too many.

And, I have seen/read lore/angst about suicide, torture, isolation, death / loss of someone close, and other harsh topics.

Topics which, should either not be used or at least be put viewer discretion on as a minimum.
Certain topics can be triggering, and we, as a community of creative writers and role players need to understand that. PERIOD.

Straight from triggering things, to servers putting too much angst on characters.
I think we should agree here, that it should be the person who plays said character, that should decide if they want to partake in certain types of lore or not.

End notes

While of course, we can’t decide how you make your lore, and we are not asking you to stop making angst.

But we are definitely asking you to put trigger warnings or viewer discretions where and when they need to be there, and to remember that sometimes angst can become too much.

I think angst is like candy, candy is good to have occasionally, maybe just a piece or two everyday won't hurt, but eating whole buckets of it daily is gonna make you sick.

Person with original thought

This quote kinda sums it all up, sometimes angst can be good, fun, and interesting.
But if it is there too much, it can become a hazard, and it can remove originality.

Plus, angst becomes much more fun when it comes out of nowhere, instead of just being
“Yet another angst episode/stream”.

I hope y’all will take this article to heart. I know a lot of y’all are clever enough to understand this and to not take it too far.
We just need the rest out there to understand this.

Also, please don’t go and hate on the person with the original idea if you find out who spoke their mind, they were brave for speaking up about it.
